Effect of low dose ionizing radiation versus human wharton’s jelly mesenchymal stem cells in the treatment of experimental rheumatoid arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is one of the major causes disability that aggrieve a financial burden for healthcare system as well patients. Both stem cell therapy and low-dose radiotherapy (LD-RT) have been recognized alternative approaches to alleviate pain, inflammation, bone in inflamed joints. Accordingly, present study was designed compare efficacy both modalities treatment RA experimental rats. induced forty female rats using Complete Freund’s adjuvant (CFA), divided into four groups (arthritic induction group three groups) compared controls: received Human’s Wharton Jelly Mesenchymal Stem Cells (WJMSC), other two individual doses 0.5 1 Gy Gamma irradiation once week six weeks. After weeks animals were sacrificed examined joint histology, paw swelling, mRNA gene expression TNF-α, IL-1β IL-6 together with serum anticyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) nitric oxide (NO). Results showed (0.5 Gy) WJMSC individually modulated effects by significantly decreasing measured biochemical molecular parameters. However, at histology level it evident has better pronounced effect WJMSC, which aggravated on erosion. The reports IR decreased Anti-CCP, specific marker RA, however, might deliberate synovitis arthritis.
